Stir One Another Up

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near (Heb 10:24-25).

Brief Thoughts on the Sermon:

This passage reminds us that Christian community isn’t passive. God doesn’t call us simply to sit near one another, exchange polite greetings, and then go back to lives that never really touch. He calls us to pay attention to one another with love.

To stir one another up, we first have to notice one another. We have to care enough to see when someone is weary, when someone is drifting, or when someone needs to be reminded of the good God is calling them to do.

Hebrews also reminds us that gathering with the church matters. When we assemble, we’re not only coming for what we receive. We’re also coming because the body needs us. Our presence can encourage someone else. Our faithfulness can strengthen someone else. Our love can help someone else keep going.

Remember that Christ has opened the way to God, and until the Day comes, we need one another. We’re not merely attenders at the same assembly. We’re members of the same body, called to help each other stay faithful to Jesus.
